At the US Open, Serena Williams and her daughter showed poignant expressions

As the US Open unfolds in Queens, New York, all eyes are on Serena Williams, playing in what is likely the final tournament in her storied career.

But even as a packed, star-studded Arthur Ashe Stadium eagerly watched Serena play her first-round match against Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, the star of the show seemed to be her precocious four-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

While Serena served the aces and swing volleys which have come to define her game and legacy, little Olympia served up looks in her mother’s player’s box.

The tot wore a custom-made Nike dress bedazzled with mini rhinestones, a replica of the one worn by Serena. The tennis ace’s diamond-encrusted look was inspired by figure-skating competition apparel and incorporated a six-layer skirt, referencing Serena’s six prior US Open titles, which began in 1999.

Olympia paired her glitzy frock with white beads in her hair, a nod to the iconic look her mom and her aunt, Venus Williams, sported when they made their professional debuts in the 1990s.

“It was either her wear beads or me,” Serena said at a news conference after her win.

“I wanted to do it but I just didn’t have the time,” she added, saying that Olympia often asks to wear beads.

“I was so happy when she had them on; it’s perfect on her.”

Fans immediately took to Twitter to gush over Serena’s mini-me, who delighted the crowd with animated reactions to the on-court action.

“Olympia matching with Serena AND wearing the beads Serena wore when she won the US Open for the first time is the cutest thing in the WORLD!” one Twitter user wrote.

Another tweeted, “Hey @usopen, how about a dedicated Olympia reaction camera? Who’s with.

Before the 40-year-old entered the stadium, the audience watched a touching tribute video narrated by the actress Queen Latifah, who was also present, highlighting Serena’s past US Open performances and wins.

At the post-match ceremony, the audience watched yet another tribute video, this one narrated by Oprah Winfrey, and heard from tennis legend Billie Jean King, who recalled meeting then-six-year-old Serena and seven-year-old Venus at a tennis clinic in Long Beach, California, in 1988.

“Serena serves, and I told her, ‘Don’t change a thing’,” King said. “You saw that tonight. Her serve is by far the most beautiful serve in the history of our sport.”

Serena is also expected to play in the doubles tournament at the US Open with her sister, Venus.

“Just keep coming out and supporting me as long as I’m here,” Serena told the crowd in Queens. “I love you so much, and I’m so excited to be here.”
