Novak Djokovic was involved in a furious exchange at the Australian Open that left the match commentator completely stunned. Djokovic secured a place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open by defeating American Taylor Fritz in four sets in Melbourne.

The tennis world number one won 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to set up a semi-final showdown against either Jannik Sinner or Andrey Rublev. Djokovic enjoyed straight set victories against Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Adrian Mannarino in the third and fourth rounds respectively, but the Serbian star was made to work harder against Fritz.

At one point in the match, the pressure seemed to get to Djokovic when he lost his temper with his support team. Djokovic became frustrated during a changeover when he couldn’t find something in his bags. He looked towards his support team sitting in the stands on the other side of the court, but he struggled to attract their attention.

The star looked exasperated as he waved in the direction of his coach, before shouting at him and throwing his arms up in the air in frustration.

Once he’d caught his coach’s attention he pointed at his eyes, signalling that his team should be watching him at all times in case he needs anything.

Commentator Patrick McEnroe – brother of legendary player John McEnroe – said of Djokovic’s team as the scene unfolded: “You had one job!” Djokovic is looking to win the Australian Open for a record 11th time, although he has not always been the most popular figure down under.

The Serbian did not feature in the 2022 edition of the competition after he was deported due to not meeting the country’s Covid-19 vaccine requirements.

This year he has been branded the ‘most unlikeable tennis player ever’ after he clashed with crowds over noise during matches.

Djokovic may seem to enjoy playing the pantomime villain, but he’ll be focussed on Friday’s semi-final.
